What to Expect from a General Dentistry Visit

July 18, 2013

For patients who see their dentist every six months, what happens at a general dentistry appointment is no mystery. But if you’re a patient who has put off care because of anxiety or a busy schedule, you may not know what to expect. That’s why, in today’s post, we’d like to detail what general dentistry is about and why it’s important.

Why Is General Dentistry Important?

Prevention is one of the primary purposes of general dentistry. That’s why Dr. Dalia Georgy and Dr. Parnam Mohanna recommend coming in for a regular exam and cleaning twice a year. With this kind of frequency, dentists can watch for gum disease, cavities, TMJ dysfunction, or oral cancer, and if anything is found, can put together a treatment plan for it immediately.

How will Dr. Georgy and Dr. Mohanna look for each of these?

With a thorough oral evaluation that includes a traditional visual exam paired with the use of digital X-rays. The combination of these two will ensure that your doctor spots these changes early, before they have a chance to before more serious. When care is provided early, more of your natural smile can be preserved, benefiting you in the long run.

A Cleaner Smile with Regular Cleanings

If you brush and floss regularly, you may wonder why professional cleanings are important. The answer is simple—even though home care is the first line of defense against common dental problems, the tools that a dental hygienists uses can clean away plaque and calculus better than brushing and flossing alone. As a result, you can look forward to having a cleaner smile. As with exams, you should see your dentist about a cleaning twice a year.

Has it been more than six months since your last general dentistry appointment? Call Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry in Sapulpa to reserve an appointment with Dr. Georgy or Dr. Mohanna today.

May 13, 2013

If the thought of going to your local dentist’s office makes you want to hide under your bed, you’re definitely not alone – in fact, nearly 75% of the population reports feeling some level of anxiety or fear when faced with dental work. However, as recent clinical research has proven, regular check-ups are crucial to maintaining both your oral health and your overall health, as there is a strong link between the two. Issues such as gum disease and cavities can even increase the risk of several serious illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and more.

Here at Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry, Drs. Mohanna and Georgy want to ensure that you receive the dental care quickly and effectively. However, your comfort is also a top priority for us. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry at our Sapulpa, OK office. Whether you’ve had a negative past experience with a dentist, are afraid of needles or drills, or simply feel uncomfortable in that big chair, sedation dentistry can help you lean back and relax while we transform your teeth!

How does it work?

Both Dr. Mohanna and Dr. Georgy are certified in sedation dentistry, as well as the use of oral sedatives that are specifically used to treat dental fear. We’ll simply prescribe you the medication before your appointment, as well as specific instructions on when to take it. Then, once you’ve ingested it, have a trusted friend or family member drive you to our Sapulpa office, where we’ll make sure you feel completely relaxed and at ease before we begin your procedure. While oral sedation dentistry doesn’t render you completely unconscious, most patients report that they remember little or even nothing about the dental work we’ve performed once it’s complete! However, you will need your companion to drive you home afterwards; the effects should wear off in a few hours.

We want to give you the whole, healthy smile you need and deserve! Contact our Sapulpa office today with any questions you have about sedation dentistry, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

  • Frequent migraines or headaches
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Teeth that are worn, chipped, or cracked
  • Limited jaw movement (“Locked” jaw)
  • Continuous pain or soreness in your teeth or jaw

If one or more of these match your current oral health situation, then you may be a candidate for full mouth rehabilitation. At Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry, we understand the frustration and pain that can arise from teeth that are damaged or a bite that feels uneven. Additionally, dental restorations such as veneers or crowns may also be used to enhance your bite and help you achieve a more comfortable position. Drs. Root Canal Therapy from Dr. Mohanna and Dr. Georgy Can Rescue Your Smile

March 29, 2013

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

  • A severe toothache
  • Discoloration (a darkening) of the tooth
  • Swelling and tenderness in the gums around a certain tooth
  • Prolonged dental sensitivity to excessively hot or cold temperatures

If one or more of these fit your current oral health condition, then it’s very possible you could be in a need of a root canal. Out of all the dental procedures a person can undergo, “root canal” always seems to the two words that potential patients fear most. While the procedure may have once been excessively painful or invasive, today’s tools and available sedation techniques have made these descriptions very far from the truth! In fact, root canal therapy is a common restorative service that can save your natural teeth from extraction and even restore full form and functionality to them!  At Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry, we’ll do everything in our power to keep your smile whole and healthy for years to come – that’s why Drs. Mohanna and Georgy offer root canal therapy to patients from Sapulpa, OK and beyond.

One Simple Service, Many Enduring Benefits

Root canal therapy specifically treats dire infections that have been able to enter the inside of the tooth due to extensive decay or injury and infect the “pulp” of a tooth. During your procedure, Dr. Mohanna or Dr. Georgy will simply remove the diseased pulp and any bacteria, thoroughly clean the area, and seal the tooth closed so as to prevent further infection. In most cases, we’ll also need to have a crown custom made so as to fit the affected tooth and restore it to full functionality.

While root canal therapy may have acquired a bad reputation over the years, the treatment is actually incredibly successful, and most teeth that undergo the procedure go on to last a lifetime as long as they’re properly cared for.  Even better, root canal therapy can often be completed in a single appointment!

Don’t let fear keep you from receiving the care your teeth need – contact our Sapulpa office today to schedule an appointment! Drs. Mohanna and Georgy can’t wait to provide concise, comprehensive care for you and your family.

Keep Little Smiles Safe with Children’s Dentistry Services from Drs. Mohanna and Georgy

March 18, 2013

It’s understandable that the dentist’s office can be a scary place for young children – after all, there are plenty of adults who are spooked by it, too! If you want your son or daughter to be invested in keeping their smile happy and healthy for years to come, though, it’s crucial to instill good oral health care early on. That’s why the team here at Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry is committed to providing gentle, comprehensive children’s dentistry services to your loved ones, designed specifically to fit the unique needs of little smiles. Patients from all over Sapulpa, OK are welcome to bring the youngest members of their family in to experience Drs. Mohanna and Georgy’s five-star treatment!

We recommend that your son or daughter attends their first children’s dentistry appointment around the time their first tooth comes in. These first few visits are usually referred to as “happy visits” because we’ll spend the time making sure your child is accustomed to the various sights and sounds of our dental office, as well as explaining to you how to properly care for their oral health. Once they reach the age of four, their children’s dentistry examinations will become more extensive; at this point, we’ll usually ask that you sit out in the waiting room so that we can form a stronger bond with them. Children are often scared or anxious when faced with unfamiliar situations; by easing them into the dental care process and ensuring that they feel comfortable, we eliminate this negative possibility.

In addition to an extensive check-up of the teeth and gums during a children’s dentistry appointment, we might also:

  • Take X-rays in order to more completely assess developing teeth
  • Clean the teeth thoroughly
  • Check for undesirable habits like thumb-sucking
  • Educate them about proper brushing and flossing habits

Your loved ones deserve the best dental care available, and that’s just what you’ll find at Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry. Contact our Sapulpa, OK office today to schedule an appointment for the littlest smiles in your family. We can’t wait to leave your teeth healthier and happier than ever!

Straighten Your Smile Seamlessly with Invisalign in Sapulpa, OK

February 22, 2013

For many adults in the workplace today, dreams of finally having a perfectly straight smile can feel just a little too far out of reach. After all, you’ve worked hard to establish a polished, professional image among your peers; the last thing you want is to ruin it by having to wear clunky metal braces. You deserve a solution that helps you feel secure and comfortable in your everyday life, not one that transports you back to junior high. That’s why we’re happy to offer Invisalign as a cosmetic treatment here at Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry in Sapulpa, OK. With the help of Invisalign, you can transform your teeth in a virtually invisible fashion, leaving you with a smile that you’ll be proud to show off to the world.

Invisalign treatment consists of a set of clear aligners, each designed to represent a stage of movement as your teeth move into their ideal alignment. Drs. Mohanna and Georgy will ensure that these appliances are custom-fit with the help of three-dimensional computer modeling. Then, all you need to do is wear each set of aligners for around two weeks before moving onto the next. No need for uncomfortable tightening sessions or constant adjustments – when using Invisalign aligners, you’ll only need to come to our Sapulpa office every six to eight weeks so that we keep an eye on your progress.

There are several benefits to Invisalign, including:

  • They’re virtually unnoticeable, allowing you to achieve a transformed smile without sacrificing your self-confidence in the process.
  • Traditional metal braces often cause mouth sores or cuts; with Invisalign, you won’t have to worry about discomfort.
  • The aligners are removable, meaning that you won’t need to make any disruptive changes to your diet or oral hygiene routine.
  • Invisalign treatment is usually completed in around a year – a significantly shorter time than traditional metal braces, which can take multiple years.

Don’t let crooked teeth keep you from enjoying yourself. Let Dr. Mohanna and Dr. Georgy give you something to smile about with the help of Invisalign. Our team is committed to providing you with effective, personalized care that always puts your comfort first. Call our Sapulpa office today with any questions you might have about Invisalign, or if you’d like to schedule a consultation.

Get Your Teeth Out Of a Jam with Emergency Dental Care from Dr. Mohanna and Dr. Georgy

February 8, 2013

As we all know, life can be unpredictable at times, even where your dental health is concerned. From tooth loss to jaw pain, emergencies happen, usually at the most inconvenient or frustrating times. Don’t panic, though – at Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry in Sapulpa, OK, our experienced and dedicated team is committed to providing you with excellent care, no matter the day or time. If you suffer a dental emergency, the first step you should take is to call our office as soon as possible. However, if you can’t get to us right away, Dr. Mohanna and Dr. Georgy are happy to be able to offer you some helpful tips that should improve your condition in the meantime. Here are some common emergency situations:

I knocked my tooth out!

If you still have the tooth, hold it by the crown and rinse it in warm water. Don’t scrub off any tissue that’s still attached! Try to slip the tooth back into its socket. If it won’t go in easily, don’t try and force it – instead, place the tooth in a container of milk, or water with a pinch of salt if none is available. Come in to our Sapulpa office as quickly as possible – the sooner we can see you, the better chance we have of saving your tooth.

I lost my crown!

If you can find it, save the crown and bring it with you to the office. If you aren’t able to come right away, you can dab a small amount of toothpaste onto the affected tooth and gently place the crown back into its original position. Dental adhesive can also be used.

I have a really painful toothache!

First, try rinsing your mouth with warm water in order to dislodge any food from between the teeth. If this doesn’t work, over-the-counter analgesics such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen can be taken to relieve the pain until you can get to our Sapulpa office. However, don’t place Aspirin or other pain medication directly on the gum tissue – this can cause damage.

I have a broken/loose orthodontic band/wire!

Use some orthodontic wax to secure the bracket or wire back into place. Under no circumstances should you use glue!

For information about other dental emergencies, take a look here. Don’t let dental emergencies stress you out – Dr. Mohanna, Dr. Georgy, and their team are here to provide you with the most effective and compassionate care available at any time you need it. Call our Sapulpa, OK office today if you’re ready to schedule an appointment.
