Do Your Dentures Always Fall Out? Try These 5 Tips to Keep Them in Place

Whether you’re missing just a few pearly whites or a whole mouthful, dentures in Glenpool are a great way to give you back the full smile you deserve. To create them, your dentist will take detailed impressions of your mouth so that they resemble your natural smile as much as possible. Over the years, though, they can sometimes have trouble staying in place. If your dentures frequently fall out, read on below to learn five tips to keep them in place.

1. Use a Denture Adhesive

Adhesives can come in the form of creams, liquids, and powders. When applied, the adhesive mixes with your saliva, causing the denture to puff up and better adhere to your gums. Just make sure to use only a small amount at first; using too much adhesive can make it harder to remove your dentures at the end of the day.

2. Clean Your Dentures Every Day

Cleaning your dentures should be part of your daily routine. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently remove leftover food debris and plaque. Leaving these particles behind could lead to gum disease. Do not use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as that could wear down the material.

3. Eat Wisely and Speak Slowly

When you first receive your dentures, talking too quickly or forcefully may dislodge them. Start slowly and gradually work up to your normal speed.

Also, you might have to stick to a soft food diet for the first few days. Then, begin cutting heartier foods into bite-sized chunks. Be sure to chew evenly with both sides of your mouth.

4. Don’t Wear Your Dentures to Bed

While it’s certainly possible to sleep in your dentures, most dentists would strongly recommend against it. Your gums and jawbone need a chance to rest after withstanding the pressure of holding your dentures in place all day. Taking them out before bed gives your mouth some much-needed recovery time.

5. Soak Your Dentures in Warm Water

Removing your dentures at night not only allows your mouth to rest, but it’s the perfect opportunity to let your dentures soak. Whatever you do, use lukewarm or cool water, never hot water. Hot water could warp the plastic and compromise your dentures. Additionally, keeping them wet prevents them from losing their shape and thus, their snug fit.

Following these tips can keep your dentures in good shape and prevent them from losing their fit for years to come. For more advice on how to make sure your dentures don’t fall out, ask your dentist.
